  1. Download the Alexa App

First things first, if you haven’t done so already, download the Alexa app. It’s available on the App Store for iOS users and on Google Play Store for Android users.

Once downloaded, you can either log in with your existing Amazon account or create a new one within the app.

  2. Connect The Power Supply

Now, let’s power up your Echo Dot. Connect the power supply to a wall outlet and then to your Echo Dot. You’ll notice a blue light at the bottom, indicating that the device is powered on.

In about a minute, this light will change to orange, and Alexa will let you know it’s ready for setup.

  3. Select Continue In The Alexa App

Typically, the Echo Dot will enter setup mode automatically. Alexa will also tell you that “Your Echo Dot is ready for setup. Please follow the instructions in your Alexa App.” Open your Alexa app and click “Continue“.

If your Echo Dot doesn’t automatically go into setup mode, simply press and hold the volume down and microphone off buttons for 20 seconds. The light ring will then turn off and on again, signifying that the Echo Dot is in setup mode. You may then need to review the manual setup section below.

  4. Connect Your Echo Dot To WiFi

Open the Alexa app on your mobile device. The app should detect your Echo Dot and guide you through the setup, starting with connecting your Echo Dot to Wi-Fi.

If you’ve already connected Alexa devices to Wi-Fi before, it should automatically connect you to the existing network. If not, you may be prompted to select a network and enter your login credentials.

  5. Read Things To Know and Select Continue

Manually Adding the Echo Dot

In case the app doesn’t automatically detect your Echo Dot, here’s what to do:

Press down and hold both the Volume Down Button and the Microphone off buttons for about 20 seconds. The light ring will turn off and then back on again with a blue glow. It will then turn orange when it’s ready for setup.

Tap the plus sign (+) at the top of the home screen in the Alexa app. Select “Add Device,” then choose “Amazon Echo.” Pick “Echo & Alexa” and ensure your Echo Dot’s light is glowing orange. Follow the prompts to select your device from the list and connect to Wi-Fi. After connecting, click “Continue” twice, and voilà, your Echo Dot is all set!
